Hmm, this is using a new logo with 2 exclamation points! Does that mean Order Up! 3D isn’t the only new Order Up! game, and that an Order Up!! 2 is also coming out? And then there is “Order Up!: Take Out edition” for the iPad/iPhone. So 3 new games?!

Actually, we thought 2 exclamation points was a great way to indicate that there is a whole host of new stuff to see and do, without the indication of an entirely new sequel. So let me make this the official “more info” post. We’ll see if anybody on the world-wide interpages picks it up.

First things first. There are two fairly different versions of the game coming out this year. Let’s talk about Order Up!! as we all know and love it, but with new content and features! This will come out on Playstation 3 (Move), Nintendo 3DS (which I don’t think we told anyone yet), and a third (TBA) platform as well! Playstation 3 will feature split-screen cooperative and turn-based competitive multi-player! There are other new features, new high-res visuals and lighting, a new restaurant (complete with new food and a ninja waiter!), and several other changes and additions that players of the original release can discover, while new players take it all in for the first time! Oh, and you can play it in 3D (with the slick shutter glasses), while the 3DS version is 3D also (of course)!

Then there is the iOS game! It will be released for both iPhone/iPod and iPad. As for custom features for iPad 2, we’ll update it endlessly if it takes off, so we wouldn’t rule out anything. The iOS game is structured differently from console games, and has the player working and managing more things in order to build their empire of restaurants and skyrocket their ratings. Of course, the game still revolves around cooking gameplay and all of the personality that is built in to the characters and places you ‘ll see. In this version, restaurants are non-linear. You can buy and open them in any order, as long as you have enough coin. You also have to buy your food and supplies at the start of each day and be careful not to run out of popular dishes! It’s a different dynamic than the story-based game, so fans of Order Up!! will definitely want to check out both versions on their favorite devices and consoles!

For all versions of the game, there is also a brand new Burger Face experience to start you off. The endless text pop-ups in the original drove us nuts, but we were pressed for time. So we’ve gone back and redone the whole tutorial! Burger Face Drive-Thru!

As for an all new Order Up 2, we’re really hoping that we find a good-sized and dedicated audience by returning to our beloved Island Paradise of Port Abello! We have a fully featured sequel laid out that we’re dying to get a chance to create, if the games catch on. So spread the word! Order Up!! is coming and everyone should put down Angry Birds and Bullet Storm for a while and check it out! Think that will fly? ;-p

So, the iOS version plays a bit like Lemonade Tycoon? Because that would be awesome.

Lemonde Tycoon…is that the one where you buy so many glasses and set the price, and then hope there’s a heat wave? Yeah, we actually talked about that game when we were working through new economics for the iOS version.

On iOS, the player is intended to play longer and earn more coins over time. There will be many more things to spend coins on, and new mini-games for earning more coins (faster) as you go. But there are always things that will need to be taken care of, and will continue to cost coin to maintain. For example, like we mentioned, you will buy food at the start of every day. Hamburger plates are very popular, so you had better buy a bunch! If you run out of something, a customer who wanted it will change their order to a default dish that only pays a tiny tip, even if it’s perfect. New menu items will now be purchased one at a time as well, to build the menu expansion more over time. And now imagine if you burn the place down early in the day…all of the food that you didn’t get to cook and serve is a cost that you just ate, so the mini-games can have a deeper meaning. And if you run out of coin and can’t buy more food for a decent day, you can now swallow your pride and go back to working the new Burger Face Drive-Thru to save up and re-open your other restaurant(s).

With the iOS, people don’t tend to sit and play for an hour the way they do on a console, so there will be plenty of gameplay for them to constantly come back to, drawn out over longer periods of time.

    Is the 3ds edition retail?

Awesome news. Now the real question will be do I throw down for a 3DS, a TBA Platform (should I cross my fingers for Dreamcast 2?) or bite the bullet and finally get Move for my PS3.

    May 21, 2011 at 3:52 pm

@Lee – Yes, it will be a retail cart on 3DS. We’re still talking to Nintendo about the specs for their new download shop, so we’ll keep you posted on news there too.

@Robio – LOL…I hear Sega is just skipping right to Dreamcast 3! You heard it here first! Oh, and for what it’s worth, the PS3 version also supports the standard controller.

@Team Chicken Cool! Is it too early to ask who is publishing the game? Is it Zoo?

Will there be a new Order Up! for Wii? I have heard a lot of talk about other systems, but nothing for the Wii.

Oh wow. Just read entire comment after that ridiculous outburst. Now I feel like a dunder head. OK so if this takes off then we might get Order Up 2? I accept your challenge. I was able to turn 4 of my friends onto the original, and they loved it.

    This is PHENOMENAL news!

RE: Wii version – The key thing here is that this isn’t a full blown sequel, more like a bigger first release to cover a larger audience and hope that it takes off. Wii would definitely get our attention for a proper sequel, if we get the chance to pursue it.

So, have you guys shown any of the new versions of Order Up!! at E3 yet? I haven’t seen it in any of the Sony or Nintendo game montages?

    June 10, 2011 at 10:56 am

No, we weren’t on the floor. We were showing the iPad version to various publishers and talking about all the versions that are still available for partners like them. We also showed some early stuff that we are starting work on beyond the current Order Up. When there are so many big titles being debuted at the show, it tends to focus on the more core-gamer stuff. We also let Sony know that we have Order Up running on the Vita already too. That was a surprise for them. Oh, and we saw Cooking Mama walking around…I wanted to trip her. LOL!

@Amber – Absolutely! It will likely trail the release a little bit, but it will be there!
