I hope they do better this time around! This game has the potential to appeal to so many people, it just needs the advertising to get the word out there. I’ll be picking up all 3 versions.
Also, lingering question, does the “deep monetary system” in the iOS version mean that it’s a free to play game with in-app purchase?

We’re hoping the game takes off too. We would love to continue working on a whole new Order Up game. Actually the iOS game is pretty heavily modified and aimed more towards a steady build up of your restaurant empire, but it is definitely NOT based on timed events like most free games (e.g. “Wait 8 hours for your dish to complete” followed by waiting another hour for people to eat all the servings while you’re gone doing something else). The only timed event happens when your place is closed for Rats or you burn it down. But even then, you have options.
There is an in-app purchase feature, but there’s nothing in the game that can’t be earned by actually playing. And again, by “playing” we don’t mean “waiting.” Amongst the new feature highlights is a whole new way to build and balance your menu to start each day (like buying supplies). If you run out of stuff that customers want, they’ll change their order and you make less money. Other features include Chef Specials working differently, and a whole new stat tracking/rating feature as well, so you can see just how well you’re running your restaurants and compare them to your friends.

Oh nice, looks like this will be the first F2P game that I really get into! The main thing that bugs me about them is you always end up hitting that pay wall where you can’t progress any further and either wait 24 hours for your *resource* to refill (only a small amount) or you cough up $2 to keep going. But I liked how Order Up mixed in this idea of building up a restaurant empire rather than just being a straight up cooking minigame collection, so I’ll probably go for the in-app purchases.
Also, last night on the 3DS eShop under the “available at retail” bubble I noticed Order Up!! was listed and saw that it had a release date of 1/7/11. Is that correct? On amazon it says the release date is 2/14/11 for both 3DS and PS3. I was going to order them from there but if they’re available somewhere else right now then I’d rather get it sooner!

Yeah, we’re really hoping to introduce something new with the To Go game. Give the casual iOS crowd something more like a game than they’re accustomed to. Too many of those other games didn’t really feel like you were actually playing…more like you’re just managing an ant farm, ya know? I get it. The good ones are fun time-killers, but we’re coming from the console side of things, where we’ve always made game with a clear end-goal. So maybe we can create a new genre somewhere between the two. And if it’s really popular, we’ll be able to expand into brand new stuff there as well.

Are you planning to release a new Order Up! for the existing Wii console or the next Order Up! game will be released for Wii U?

@ Lesley – The 3DS version is out currently in Europe, with the PS3 version coming in early February (but we’re not sure of the specifics).
The iOS game will be available world-wide in the App Store on January 19th (THIS COMING THURSDAY!!! WOOOOOO!!!).
And finally, the console games (3DS and PS3) are now being released in North American in March. We have just recently found out that they had been pushed back from their initial January release, but hopefully it all helps to create a bigger release and some good momentum and opportunities to create more games in the Order Up world!

@Lefteris – If we get a chance to do another version of the game, it would likely be aimed at the Wii U, and not the current Wii. It really all depends on the opportunity though.

This Thursday?? Yay! At least the iOS version will tide me over until the March PS3 release (since I’m in North America). Thanks so much for the reply!

Delayed until March?
It would be nice if we could buy an advanced copy, perhaps through your website…

@TechNick – Yeah, we talked quite a bit with the publisher (Ignition) and their plan made a lot of sense; trying to organize the best launch, so that we’re not up against the wave of blockbusters that hit around the holidays. It’s hard for the little guys to make any noise in that crowd. Given that it’s now a little ways out though, we will definitely be trying to grab some early copies to give away to fans (probably through our Facebook and Twitter pages). We’ll keep you posted on that effort.

It is soooo awesome to finally be playing a new Order Up! I’m really loving this new iOS version. Being able to play this while I’m in the bathroom invokes a rush of emotions that cannot be described with human language. I was kinda disappointed to see that some features are still “coming soon”, Crispin Brown would be pretty helpful to have right about now… I also recommend that you guys switch the ads to iAds or something similar, the full screen ads are quite jarring. (I obviously disabled them after the tutorial though) I can already tell that getting all of the restaurants in this version is going to take MUCH longer than it did in the original, which is a great thing.
This should hold me over until the PS3/3DS version. I was hoping Amazon’s Feb. 14th release date was legit as I have family coming up to visit right around them and it would have been awesome to play multiplayer, but alas, it will have to wait.
